How this started

This land held our grandmother's house for decades, rented out — our father, Dinarte, was born and raised in it. Years later the chance came to buy the whole plot, and that's what he did: bought it all and rebuilt the other house that stood on it, the one that for years belonged to Dona Maria José, a neighbour who has known him since he was a boy. That's how Vivenda Souto came to be. Inside, everything was rebuilt from scratch for the comfort and practicality of a real self-contained studio — but we kept the structure, so it would still feel like a house, not accommodation. That's what we offer: a house with a traditional feel, in a residential part of Funchal, with the comfort you'd expect today. Living the way the locals do, with cafés and restaurants nearby and a bus stop at the door — from here, anywhere in Funchal is one or two ten-minute rides away. All three studios were renovated by Dinarte himself, and the lettings are run by the family, not a company. That's why we give our guests a different kind of attention, always ready with a restaurant tip, an attraction worth seeing, or whatever else is needed. The three studios' names are not decoration — they're a tribute to the people who were part of this house: the mother-in-law, the grandmother, and Dona Maria José.
